Zegrze Reservoir
It is the largest water reservoir in Mazovia and a mecca for water sports lovers. Locals from this part of Mazovia/Warsaw and the neighbourhood treat it as a place of recreation during leisure time.
Zegrze Reservoir is first of all a place for recreation and thanks to the pure waters of the lake it is a perfect place to spend your leisure time. Throughout the year (mainly from spring through autumn), thousands of Varsovians and Mazovia inhabitants come to the lake on weekends to rest and hide away from the burning sun.
Zegrze Reservoir is a wonderful place for sailing. The proximity of Warsaw let the sailors living in the city devote every free moment to their hobby. Sailing schools, operating at the Reservoir banks, have so far trained few generations of sailors. It is also here that Mateusz Kusznierewicz started to learn sailing. Throughout the year, the lake hosts various sailing events which attract the best Polish sailors.
The Reservoir is not less attractive in the winter. When the water freezes, sails not disappear but are replaced by iceboats. The frozen lake is also a perfect place for ice skaters.
Zegrze Reservoir is paradise not only for water sports lovers but also for fishing lovers. Pure and relatively shallow water creates excellent conditions for catching among other fish: bream, carp, roach, white bream, pikeperch, pike, perch and catfish.
Zegrze Reservoir is more than a place for a weekend trip. Thanks to the constantly developing tourist facilities, areas by the lake and the lake itself are becoming a place for a longer stay. The proximity of other attractive spots of the northern Mazovia, such as the Modlin Fortress and Kampinoski National Park as well as Warsaw will make sure that you stay busy all the time.
The Vistula, the Narew and the Wkra
It is a most extraordinary place in Mazovia, where three rivers – the Vistula, the Narew and the Wkra, merge in the same point.
The Vistula is often called the queen of Polish rivers. It is also the last big European river that may be considered natural. It forms a unique landscape of a big natural river and is one of the most precious European ecosystems units. This beauty is appreciated by all natural environmental lovers. The inter-levee land of the Vistula comprises a very important migration pathway for a significant number of various mammals’ species and functions as an ecological corridor for migration of many rare species of birds.
The riparian forests constitute a forest habitat with the largest number of plant and animal species on our continent, corresponding to rainforests of the tropical zone.
The Narew on the other hand, forms a broad area of marshland, swamps and peatbogs. It is a unique example of an anastomosing river (a type of river that flows simultaneously in party separate channels), the only one of this type in Europe and one of three in the world.
The vast expanse of green meadows stretching along the Wkra is dotted with numerous small islands. The Wkra is a shallow river meandering unhurriedly among gentle morainal hills and meadows decked with flowers. Especially in the springtime, the old riverbeds and the surrounding meadows are flooded by the water of the Narew, which creates extraordinarily picturesque landscape. You can go for a stroll along the sandy bank of the river or paths rowed with willows which once made Mazovia so famous. The valley of these three rivers offers multiplicity of ways to spend your leisure time and create favourable conditions for various forms of tourism.
